Safeguarding & Confidentiality

At Beyond Words Collective CIC, creating a safe, respectful and inclusive environment is at the heart of everything we do.

Whether you attend one of our advocacy training programmes, join a Friendship Circle, contact us for information or access our resources, we want you to feel welcomed, listened to and treated with dignity and respect.

This page explains our commitment to safeguarding and how we approach confidentiality.

Our Commitment to Safeguarding

We believe that everyone has the right to feel safe and to be treated with dignity, kindness and respect.

Although Beyond Words Collective CIC does not provide regulated care services, we recognise that the people who engage with us may be supporting, or may themselves be, individuals who are vulnerable or at risk of harm.

We are committed to:

  • promoting the safety and wellbeing of everyone who engages with us
  • creating respectful and inclusive learning environments
  • responding appropriately if safeguarding concerns are raised
  • acting responsibly where there is a concern that someone may be at risk of abuse, neglect or exploitation
  • encouraging a culture where people feel able to speak up about concerns.

Confidentiality

We treat personal information shared with us with care and respect.

Information you share during enquiries, training registration, Friendship Circles or other activities will normally remain confidential.

However, there are important exceptions.

When We May Need to Share Information

In exceptional circumstances, we may need to share information without your consent if we believe that:

  • someone is at immediate risk of serious harm
  • a child or adult with care and support needs may be experiencing abuse or neglect
  • there is a legal obligation to disclose information
  • disclosure is necessary to help prevent serious crime or protect someone’s safety.

Where appropriate and safe to do so, we will explain why information needs to be shared and who it will be shared with.

Friendship Circles

Friendship Circles are intended to provide welcoming spaces where people can learn, reflect and share experiences together.

We encourage everyone taking part to:

  • respect each other’s privacy
  • avoid sharing another person’s personal information outside the group
  • listen without judgement
  • value different experiences and perspectives
  • contribute in a way that helps create a supportive environment.

While we ask participants to respect confidentiality, we cannot guarantee that everything shared within a group will remain confidential. We therefore encourage participants not to disclose information that they would not wish others to know.

Advocacy Training

Our advocacy training programmes are designed to develop knowledge, confidence and practical skills.

Participants are welcome to discuss their experiences to support learning. However, we ask that personal information about other individuals is anonymised wherever possible.

This helps protect the privacy and dignity of everyone involved.

Respectful Behaviour

We are committed to providing an environment where everyone feels welcome.

We ask all participants to:

  • treat others with kindness and respect
  • value different viewpoints
  • communicate respectfully
  • avoid discriminatory, abusive or offensive language or behaviour
  • contribute to a positive and supportive learning environment.

Where behaviour seriously impacts the safety or wellbeing of others, we reserve the right to remove individuals from an activity or programme.

Concerns About Safety

If you become concerned about the safety or wellbeing of someone during one of our programmes or activities, please let us know as soon as possible.

We will take concerns seriously and consider the most appropriate course of action based on the information available.

Personal Information

Information collected through our website, registration forms or communications is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Please refer to our:

  • Privacy Policy
  • Cookie Policy
  • Website Terms of Use

for further information about how personal information is collected, stored and used.
